“It was a very special service, particularly as our Church was closed after Christmas Eve for re-plastering work.
St Michael & All Angels is a small rural Church in the village of Meeth, Devon. The Church was packed. We had a small choir of local ladies plus our organist, Mrs Marjorie Cleverdon and her husband, Geoffrey, came from nearby Hatherleigh.
Our churchwarden, Mrs Ingrid Dodd, wrote a very interesting sketch about the children of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus with the second part being in the present time. The children were very good and started by singing O Little Town of Bethlehem and inviting us to sing the last verse at the end of the sketch.
Our vicar, Rev Dr Ruth Hansford, gave an inspirational sermon describing the birth of Jesus: the fact that God became a vulnerable baby so that we could hold Him in our hands; the impact on the shepherds, kings and wise men; selecting relevant readings and poems to be read out.
The evening ended with mulled wine and mince pies enjoyed by all.
It was lovely and very relevant to have the collection for the Children of Bethlehem, which was heartily supported by the children of Meeth.”
Children’s Relief Bethlehem UK would like to thank to all involved people who made such a great contribution to our good cause. We hope that St Michael & All Angels in Meeth will consider supporting us again in the future.
